A Young Woman Quits Drinking, Suffers From Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Comes To A Decision To Get Alcohol Therapy
Kayla is a forty-one-year-old paralegal who has been drinking in an abusive and irresponsible manner since her fiancee and she severed their relationship. In fact, for the past eight months she has been drinking just about one-and-a-half bottles of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking more than a few shots throughout the day. In a word, Kayla has been drinking so excessively and abusively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.
After feeling dejected because she was beginning to forget about the importance of her health, Kayla at long last told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to stop the self pity act, that it's time to stop the irresponsible and abusive drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 9:30 AM, she came to a decision that she would stop drinking suddenly and completely without preparation or planning.
When she called her best friend and told her that she had stopped drinking and that after a few hours she suddenly started to experience flu-like symptoms, Nicole, her best buddy, told Kayla to call her medical practitioner and clearly explain what she was experiencing.
Her doctor informed her that she may be going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a friend or family member drive her to the emergency room ASAP. It appears that her medical practitioner had phoned ahead and told the emergency room staff to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two ER workers who promptly told her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.
An emergency room doctor administered some meds to lessen the discomfort of her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some medications to help get rid of the alcohol that was still in her blood. After a few hours, Kayla was removed from the ER and wheeled to the recovery room.
After she was in recovery for just about an hour, Doctor Fox, a substance abuse and chemical dependency specialist, came to talk to her. He took his time and explained that Kayla had gone through alcohol withdrawals when she quit drinking due to the fact that she had become dependent on alcohol.
He then explained that with excessive drinking on a daily basis, the drinker's brain over time adjusts to the alcohol so that it can work in a "routine" fashion. When the drinker then suddenly refrains from consuming alcohol, it can be stressed, the brain responds by bringing forth alcohol withdrawals. What is more, her medical practitioner also explained the various alcoholism symptoms that an alcohol dependent individual typically goes through as the disease progresses.
Fortunately for Kayla, it was verified that she was in the first stage of alcohol dependency and, consequently, she was given a good forecast for a complete recovery if she will get the alcohol rehabilitation she requires.
Kayla told the healthcare practitioner that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to recover her health. She also mentioned that she has an exceptional hospitalization plan that will more likely than not pay for most, if not all, of the costs needed for treatment. It was apparent that Kayla was very happy with her positive medical forecast and felt at peace knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol treatment she requires so that she can begin the path to recovery.
